May is the month of the 'Transport for Greater Manchester Walking Festival' and Bolton Ramblers are leading several local walks during the festival.

On Thursday, 3rd May, meet at 10.30am at Horwich Leisure Centre, Victoria Rd., BL6 5PY for a 4/5 mile circular walk along the side of Lower Rivington Reservoir.  Contact Brian on 01204 300838 for more information.

On Sunday, 6th May, meet at 10am at the Jumbles Reservoir cafe car park (SD736139) for a 9 mile circular walk.  From the Jumbles Reservoir, the walk climbs up to Affetside and on to Hawkshaw via Two Brooks.  Return via Edgworth and the Wayoh Reservoir.  Bring a packed lunch.  Contact Malcolm on 07729 346566 for more information.

On Thursday, 10th May, meet at 10.30am at Horwich Leisure Centre, BL6 5PY, for a 4/5 mile circular walk up Rivington Pike.  The fairly steep climb to the summit of the Pike is worth it for the wonderful  panoramic views. Phone Tony on 01204 692738 for more information.

On Sunday, 13th May, meet at 2pm at the Jolly Crofters Public House, Chorley Old Rd., Horwich, BL6 6RE for a 4 mile circular walk.  The walk passes through woodland in Wilderswood before climbing to the ancient cairn at Two Lads.  Descend via a former hotel on the edge of the moors.  Contact Lou on 01204 692458 for more information.

All these local walks are free and there is no need to book.  Just turn up with suitable walking gear.  For more information generally, visit: www.boltonramblers.org.uk.
