A community support service that provides valuable assistance to families and young people in Bolton with complex care needs has received a glowing inspection report.

Bolton Council’s Bridges Family Support Service which provides home care for young people up to the age of 19 with a range of disabilities, has once again been rated outstanding by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Inspectors praised every aspect of the service but were particularly impressed by the safe level of care and the quality of leadership.

During the inspection, in August this year, the CQC spoke with staff, service users and their families.

The report concludes:

“Staff interactions were warm and friendly and demonstrated respect for all the young people and their families. The service was flexible and person-centred.

“Quality assurance was a high priority and we saw a number of audits, service reviews and competency checks which helped ensure the service continued to operate at a very high standard.”

One family member of a service user told inspectors:

“I definitely feel he is safe with them. The Bridges team provides us with excellent support every week.

“We can trust all the staff to give us excellent care, enabling us to run errands and feel confident.”

Executive Cabinet Member for Education, Schools, Safeguarding and Looked after Children, Cllr Ann Cunliffe, said: “This is a valuable service that provides much-needed support to children and young people with a variety of complex care needs.

“I am delighted to see that the Bridges Family Support Service has retained its outstanding rating and extend my congratulations to the manager and staff for their hard work.

“It is clear from reading the report just how professional and caring the service is and how well the staff are regarded by the young people and their families.”
