Night Run – an evening 5km run open to everyone – has joined the schedule of events, creating a full three-day festival weekend.

It will take place on Friday, July 12 in and around Bolton town centre.

The new addition is a fun run aimed at encouraging people of all fitness levels to have fun while being active.

It is open to anyone, aged 16 plus, and a great warm-up run for athletes participating in Ironman UK on Sunday July 14.

Bolton has been home to the country’s biggest and longest running Ironman race for the past ten years.

Ironman UK competitors have to complete a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile cycle and then run a marathon.

Ironkids UK was added in 2012 and has grown into the world’s largest Ironkids event.

The Night Run race will start in Le Mans Crescent at 7pm on Friday, July 12.

Participants will head through the town centre into and through Queen’s Park before returning to the town centre and finishing in Victoria Square on the same finish line as the Ironman athletes.

Each participant will receive an t-shirt and everyone who finishes will get a medal.

Entries are limited, cost £10, and will open Friday, January 18 at 1pm. For more details and to enter, visit www.ironman.com/uk.

Participants, their family and friends, as well as Bolton residents, can look forward to a fun-filled evening.

Musical entertainment around the course and a festival finish are planned, with food and drink vendors at the finish line in Victoria Square.
