Y7 pupil at Bolton School Girls’ Division Holly Durnian looks set to follow in her father’s golfing footsteps, having won the Pro-Am Manchester Alliance’s Mixed Pairs competition for the White Cup, held at Chorlton Golf Club and sponsored by Don Milligan of DJM Dairies. Father, Denis Durnian, a former professional golfer on the European Tour, also took part in the competition and who, along with his wife Sam, was defending champion of the coveted trophy! Holly’s efforts, along with Chorley Golf Club Professional Andy Palmer, meant the trophy stayed in the Durnian family as they posted a stunning 48 points to leave a quality field trailing in their wake.

Andy Palmer, himself no stranger to success in the Alliance, was the first to admit that Holly was the main contributor to their fantastic winning score which is a new record in the competition since it changed to BB Stableford a few seasons ago. Twelve-year-old Holly set a new record of becoming the youngest player to win the competition and the first player to succeed her parents in winning the White Cup.

Proud mum Sam said: “Holly has been playing golf just over a year now; she has been playing at least once a week through the winter months but will increase this now as the season starts. In fact, she hits balls before and after school in our garden off a mat on our decking. We are a golfing family and all play together at Chorley Golf Club. Her father, Denis’s days on the European tour and then the European Seniors tour are behind him but, since retiring, he has regained his Amateur status. We couldn’t be happier for Holly.
