Horwich RMI JFC held a sponsored walk to the Pike and back on the 18th of May.

They are hoping to install this event as an annual fundraiser for the club to help with ongoing running costs.

A mix of their teams players attended, ranging from some of their under 6’s to under 16’s.

Stewart Burke, the clubs Secretary said, ‘It was an idea from our vice chair, Neil Ashton a few months ago. The funds will obviously help the club, but it’s not just about that. It was great that a lot of the players got to see that not only are they part of one of our teams, but they are part of the wider picture - the club.’

The club had been offered quite an incentive from a local business. The offer being a £1000 donation if the club managed to get 50 plus sponsored walkers.

‘The offer was unbelievably generous,’ Stewart continued. ‘I stopped at one point and counted everyone taking part. We had 97  participants, so we knew we’d done what we needed to do to claim the offer.’

The club offers football for girls and boys, from u6’s to u18’s. They also have a dedicated ladies team as well as a new open age development team.

Any players wishing to join can contact the club on their Facebook or Twitter pages or email the club on info@horwichrmijfc.com.

‘All links and information as well as the team contacts are also available on our website, which is www.horwichrmijfc.com,’ added Stewart.
