Bolton Ramblers have a programme of 4 local walks over the next 2 weeks. Everyone is welcome!  All the walks are free and there is no need to book.  Just turn up with suitable walking gear and, in the case of the longer walks, a packed lunch.

On Sunday, June 9th, meet at 2pm at Moss Bank Park Events' car park (past the main car park) for a 4 mile circular walk, taking in 3 farms and a Hall.  The walk will head up through Barrow Bridge, cross to the Smithills estate and Smithills Open Farm, follow the nature trail to the Hall and return via Sheep House Farm.  For further information, contact Lou on 07815 076 797.

On Wednesday, June 12th, meet at 9.20am at Bolton Bus Station, Stand 'H' to take the 535 bus to Belmont to start a 12 mile linear walk to Wigan.  This is the first leg of the 'Douglas Way' which follows the River Douglas from its source on Winter Hill to where it meets the River Ribble, west of Preston.  This initial leg of the walk will climb Winter Hill, then follow the river west as it skirts Horwich and Adlington, passes Worthington Lakes and descends into Wigan town centre.  From here, bus and train services can be used to return to Bolton.  For further information, contact Judith on 07814 657 245.

Also on Wednesday, June 12th, join Bolton Ramblers for an evening walk of approximately 5 miles around Rivington.  This is a 2 hour moderately paced circular walk.  Meet at the front of Blackedge Brewery, Hampson Street, Horwich, BL6 7JH at 6.45pm.  The walk will pass through Tigers Clough to the Pigeon Tower before descending through the Japanese Gardens, passing the site of the bungalow, the great lawn and the ornamental pools.  It returns to the Brewery via Lower Rivington.  For further information, visit the Ramblers' website: www.ramblers.org.uk (search Bolton/Horwich).

Lastly, on Sunday, June 16th, there will be a 9 mile circular walk across Burnt Edge and Wilder's Moor to Two Lads and Rivington Pike.  The walk returns via Winter Hill and Smithills Moor.  Meet at 10am at Barrow Bridge car park, Bolton.  For more information, contact Keith on 01204 302483.
