Eight Blackrod neighbours have been celebrating after scooping a share of an incredible £240,000 cash prize, thanks to playing People’s Postcode Lottery.

Each of the Fryent Close winners received a cheque for £30,000 after BL6 5BU was announced as a winning postcode on Saturday 21st September.

Daniel Watkins (28), was one of the winners who received his cheque and is already looking forward to spending his prize on a new car. He said: “When the cheque was being pulled out the envelope, I couldn’t believe how many zeros there were! I’ve never won anything in my life and I’ve only been playing for about a year. I can buy whatever I want now. My first purchase though has got to be a new car. Things keep going wrong with it so I really want to treat myself to a new one. I will also treat my sister to something nice.

“The good thing about playing for People’s Postcode Lottery is that people, just like me, are winning all the time. It’s a win win. Charities win and people win. I’m definitely going to keep playing as I’ve got as much chance of winning again as I did before, so fingers crossed for another knock at the door in the future!”

The other seven neighbours were not available to receive their cheques in person, but the money will be paid directly into their bank account.

The prize is part of People’s Postcode Lottery’s special campaign where every day in September’s draws, players in one lucky postcode will win £30,000 per ticket, with a minimum of £17 million being won in this month’s draws alone.

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador, Judy McCourt, was in Blackrod to present Daniel with his cheque.  She said: “It was a pleasure to meet Daniel today and hand over his cheque. His eyes lit up when he saw how much he had won. It’s great to hear he can now buy himself a new set of wheels and something nice for his sister. I hope each of the eight winners enjoy spending their prize money!”

A minimum of 32% of ticket sales goes directly to charities and players of People’s Postcode Lottery have helped raise more than £474 million to date for good causes across Great Britain and internationally.
