Entries for Night Run, Ironman UK’s fun evening race, will open at noon this Friday (February 7).

The 5k run joined Bolton’s Ironman weekend for the first-time last year and proved such a hit that organisers agreed to make it a permanent addition.

The event is aimed at encouraging people of all fitness levels to have fun while being active.

A total of 1,500 places are available and entrants must be aged 16 plus.

The run will take place on Friday, July 10, starting in Le Mans Crescent at 7pm.

Runners will head through the town centre, into Queen’s Park before returning to the town centre and finishing in Victoria Square on the same finish line as the Ironman athletes.

Entries cost £10, and will open Friday, February 7 at noon. For more details and to enter, visit https://www.ironman.com/im-uk-register.

Each participant will receive a t-shirt and everyone who finishes will get a medal.

Musical entertainment around the course, and a festival zone with food and drink vendors will be available on Oxford Street.

Leader of Bolton Council, Cllr David Greenhalgh, said: “We are delighted to welcome Night Run back to Bolton.

“Last year was the first time we hosted it and the response was just phenomenal. It attracted people of all ages and abilities, which is exactly what the event is about.

“Everyone I spoke to loved it, there was a real party atmosphere and it really was a fun evening.

“Together with Ironkids and the triathlon on Sunday, it really is a fantastic celebration of sport.”

Ironman UK Race Director, Sam Brawn, added: “The energy from last year’s Night Run was absolutely amazing!

“We are so excited to bring this 5k run back to Bolton and we cannot wait to welcome all our racers down the famous red carpet!”

Night Run will take place the day before the world’s largest Ironkids race on Saturday, July 11 (entries sold out).

The Ironman UK triathlon will take over Bolton on Sunday, July 12.

Competitors have to complete a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile cycle and then run a marathon.

The borough has been home to the country’s biggest and longest running Ironman race for the past eleven years.
