THE Mayor of Bolton is urging people to pick up their poppy and support our Armed Forces.

Linda Thomas received the first poppy of the local campaign and she said: “The coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic has had an impact on the Royal British Legion and the support it provides to serviceman and veterans.

“We need people to support this vital work by buying a poppy in shops or online, volunteering to help distribute poppies where they are able to or taking part in other fundraising activities.

“This year marks the 75th Anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Sadly the continuing pandemic means that we will not be able to commemorate their service and remember the fallen in our usual way together.”

This year’s Poppy Appeal is running from right through to Armistice Day on November 11. Poppies will be available from major supermarkets such as Sainsburys, Morrisons and Asda, and online at the Royal British Legion website: www.britishlegion.org.uk/
