FOR the first time for decades the familiar sight and sound of the Rotary sleigh won’t be visiting the streets this Christmas.

But that’s not stopping club members getting into the festive spirit. They are urging people to give a Christmas cash gift will make a real difference to local good causes.

The popular festive tour has been cancelled this year because of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Horwich Rotary Club president Jim Yates said: “Above all, we are thinking of everyone’s safety at this difficult time.

“It’s very disappointing but, after consultation with Bolton Council, Westhoughton Rotary has had to cancel any touring plans in 2020.

“We will really miss seeing all those happy children and their families waiting eagerly to meet Rotary Father Christmas.”

The annual sleigh collection has made it possible for the club to support many local organisations. It raises thousands of pounds each year.

There may be no street tour this year, but people in the area are still being urged to give a Christmas donation, however small, by visiting the club’s Just Giving page.

Visit:  https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/father-christmas-westhoughton to help to make a difference.

There will also be a Christmas message for all local children on the club’s Facebook page website.

And if you would like Father Christmas to send a special card to your child or children, please email the Rotary elves on Father-Christmas@Westhoughton-Rotary.org. And don’t forget to mention their names!
