HORWICH has announced its brilliant ‘community champions’ – those who have gone the extra mile during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The list has been released by the town council after its call for nominations for the official recognition from members of the public.

A wide range of people and their work is represented – from junior football coaches to organisers of support groups and individuals who swung into action to help other people during lockdown.

A council spokesperson said: “Horwich is so lucky to have such fantastic community spirit and on behalf of the community, the council would like to thank all of you for the wonderful work you have done.”

Town mayor Gordon Stone will present all the champions with a certificate of appreciation at a special celebration which will be held in “a suitable, safe style” when restrictions allow.

The spokesperson added: “Thanks also to all of you who took the time to send in your nominations and well done to all of our Horwich Champions.”
