Charity dancers are fantastic
DURING the halcyon days of Wingates
Band, in the early decades of the 20th cen-
tury, the band regularly featured resident
female vocalists, who added a most popu-
lar dimension to the band’s concert per-
formances, and with some of these soloists
becoming synonymous the famous cham-
pionship-winning band.
However, whilst it is many years since
Wingates was last fronted by a songstress,
the clock will be temporarily turned back at a
concert later this month, when a 17-years-old
Atherton girl, Caitlin Wineyard, will perform
three numbers with the band.
On Sunday, 22nd March Wingates Band will
present an evening of music featuring popu-
lar tunes from stage and screen, which musi-
cal director Paul Andrews has promised will
prove a highly entertaining aural and visual
experience from beginning to end. The concert
takes place at The Bridge Church and Centre,
Bradford Street, Bolton and commences at
7.30pm.
From an early age, Caitlin Wineyard has had
an ambition to forge a career on the stage, and
having featured in principal roles in several
local amateur musical productions, including
Christine in Phantom of the Opera, Maria in
West Side Story, Glinda in the Wizard of Oz and
Tracey in Hairspray, she seems well on the way
to achieving that exciting goal. Following her
education at Fred Longworth High School in
Tyldesley, Caitlin is now in the second year of a
college course studying musical theatre.
And she is no stranger to brass bands, as, fol-
lowing a stint in her High School band, she now
plays with Tyldesley Band.
So, yet another entertaining evening from
Wingates Band is in prospect, but this one with
a fascinating additional twist.
Tickets for the concert cost £10, and can be
ordered on 01204 696984 or 07966 364530.
THE Bolton Hospice Strictly Learn to
Dance competition has been held in the
Premier Suite at the Macron Stadium.
A record number of dancers, 20 couples,
took part in front of a massive audience of 850
supporters.
The winners were Julian Holt, the owner of
Premier Stores in Bolton and his partner, his
best friend’s daughter, Harriet Geddes, a mar-
keting and sales manager from Atherton.
All couples danced a waltz and a quickstep but
the dance that won it for the couple was their
award winning argentine tango.
Guest judge Edwina Curry was interviewed by
Bolton FM chairman Andrew Dickson. The event
was hosted by Bolton FM presenters Andrew
Dickson and Phil Ashcroft and the music, mixing
and video streaming was done by the tech team
from Bolton FM.
Chairman of Bolton Hospice Judith Bromley
said: “Without events like this the hospice would
simply not be able to function and I cannot thank
all the hospice volunteers, the dancers and sup-
porters enough for all their efforts.”
