Bury twins with Greece to promote the arts

Bury Art Museum is one of just two museums in the UK to take part in an international twinning project organised by the British Council.

The project connects museums which are located outside capital cities and explores the role that a museum can play in its community and local economy. It also aims to cultivate long lasting relationships and opportunities for future collaboration.

Bury has linked up with the City of Volos Museum in Greece, whose temporary exhibitions curator George Soulakoudis is here this week. Bury curator Susan Lord will make the return visit next week to Greece to share knowledge and ways of working together.

This twinning project is the second part of a project that Susan has worked on with the British Council Cultural Skills Unit, starting in 2016 when she devised and delivered a course called 'Developing Exhibitions' in Athens and Thessaloniki to Greek museum professionals.

The project is being funded by the British Council. The only other museum in the UK to take part in a similar project is the Discovery Museum in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
