The Horwich-born founder of a top Manchester street food outlet has won glowing praise from The Million Pound Menu’s Fred Sirieix.

The TV maître d’ is more than a little excited about a Manchester-based Blue Caribou Canteen outfit that’s recently blown his mind – and his palate.

The First Dates star raved about Blue Caribou Canteen and its authentic Québec-style poutine menu consisting of French fries and cheese curds topped with gravy.

What more could a Manc want?

Fred said: “Blue Caribou Canteen is fantastic. They’re Québec Canadian cuisine and serve French fries, cheese and gravy, reuben chicken – it’s an amazing concept.

“It’s one of those places where people will go for a treat, then go time and time again. It’s simple, but fantastic.

“Their chips are amazing – to be able to do chips that well, they know what they’re doing. My dad does the best French fries I’ve ever tasted – and these are just as tasty.

“With a simple dish menu you have to have everything perfect – and that’s what Blue Caribou Canteen have managed to do.”

The CityLife Award-winning pop-up, founded by Horwich born Graham Gartside-Bernier and Vincent Bernier, features on the second series of Fred’s My Million Pound Menu.

The BBC Two programme, which is filmed in Manchester’s Corn Exchange, will again see a panel of industry experts battle it out to invest in the most exciting new food ideas they feel are most deserving of their money.

Fred said: “I think food series are great but they’re very one dimensional. My Million Pound Menu is about food service and people as well as the food itself.

“During two of the episodes I was crying and laughing in equal measure. When you see that they want it so much, it’s hard not to get emotionally involved.”
