The Minister for Sport confirms that she will meet with the English Football League (EFL) in May this year to raise Chris Green MP’s concerns about Bolton Wanderers Football Club.

Last month, the Bolton MP wrote to the Minister for Sport, Mims Davis MP, to raise his constituents’ concerns about the EFL’s ‘fit and proper’ persons test, something that has been central to the Wanderers’ recent hardship.

In her response to Mr Green’s letter, the Minister for Sport also expressed her concern about the unnecessary risks that club owners take which far too often leaves a club’s future in jeopardy.

When discussing the response, Mr Green said: “I am pleased that the Minister for Sport will be meeting with the EFL to discuss the concerns my constituents have about the future of Bolton Wanderers.

“It would appear that the EFL have become complacent in ensuring that the ‘fit and proper’ persons test is carried out effectively and in the case of Bolton Wanderers, has also forgotten the important role our local team played in the founding of the EFL.

“Although I am aware that the club has found a new owner, the concerns about the EFLs management of this ongoing situation remain and I hope that the upcoming transfer of ownership of the Wanderers will allow the club to move on from this very difficult period.

Last month, Chris Green MP, Yasmin Qureshi MP, David Crausby MP and Linda Thomas, Leader of Bolton Council, also wrote directly to the EFL to express their concerns about the future of Bolton Wanderers.
