Bolton Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is officially 'Outstanding'!

The CCG has received its annual assurance rating from NHS England as part of the Improvement and Assessment Framework (IAF).

The IAF applies to all CCGs in the country and provides a benchmark for performance, covering four main areas: better health, better care, sustainability, and leadership.

An 'outstanding' rating is the highest possible accolade and only a handful of CCGs achieve this top ranking.

The detailed assessment reveals that Bolton CCG has performed highly in a number of categories, which are considered key areas of strength or good practice.

These include:

  • Referring patients from their GP to cancer treatment within 62 days
  • Cancer patient experience
  • Providing an annual health check for people with a learning disability
  • Diagnosis rate for dementia and dementia care
  • Access to a GP outside of usual opening hours
  • Quality of hospital provision and General Practice services
  • Appropriate prescribing of antibiotics
  • Injuries from falls in over 65s
  • Staff satisfaction
  • Electronic booking system

Chief Officer of Bolton CCG, Su Long, said: "This is fantastic news and testament to the hard work of all CCG staff and our GP member practices. I'd like to thank them and our partners for their commitment in helping us achieve this rating."

Chairman of Bolton CCG, Wirin Bhatiani, added: "As a CCG we continuously strive to do what's best for our local residents in terms of providing them access to the most appropriate and best quality health services. We are always aiming for better health and care provision in Bolton and we work closely with our partners to achieve this. We also value the thoughts and opinions of Bolton people, and work hardy to effectively engage them shaping health services for the borough."

As well as an overall rating of 'outstanding' Bolton CCG also received a Green Star rating for the framework's Quality and Leadership indicator - again the highest possible rating.

This category looks at the CCG's vision and strategy, its governing body, how leaders manage commissioning and finance, work on integration and with partners, and quality of the services it manages.

In addition, Bolton CCG received a Green Star rating for the Patient and Community Engagement indicator.

This indicator is divided into five categories: governance; annual reporting; day-to-day practice; feedback and evaluation; equalities and health inequalities.
