Chris Green, MP for Bolton West and Atherton, has been appointed to a new role, supporting the government as Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) for the Department for Education.

As PPS, Mr Green will be supporting Education Ministers in their policy creation and delivery, as well as liaising between the department and backbenchers.

Last year, the Bolton MP campaigned for increased funding for Special Education Needs and also held an important Westminster debate on the sustainability of the nurseries sector. Mr Green has also long-been an advocate of apprenticeships and has welcomed the governments renewed focus on ensuring that schools have the resources they need.

Speaking about his new role, Mr Green said: “I’m delighted to have been appointed to the role of PPS for the Department for Education.

“As an MP, I’ve had a great many discussions with parents, teachers and headteachers about education and the opportunities it gives to children when they leave school, giving them the best start in life.

“I look forward to working with Ministers and the team in the Department for Education in this important area.”
