Market Place, Bolton is set to make one Sunday more relaxing than most, with a day focused on relaxation, health and wellbeing.

The centre is inviting families to join them from 11am – 5pm on Sunday 29th September for ‘Self-Care Sunday, which will see Market Place come alive with a series of FREE, fun health and wellbeing activities. These include food sampling, cooking demos, nutrition talks, Q&A sessions, yoga, massages, laughter workshops, beauty treatments and mindfulness activities as well as special offers in a number of stores.

On the day, the teams from both Basic Kneads and Fazz’s Indian Kitchen will be hosting some healthy cooking demos to showcase some easy-cook recipes that customers can follow in their own kitchen.

There will be two nutrition workshops where a qualified nutritionist will talk participants through the basics of healthy eating. One workshop will be focused on promoting gut health, while the other on promoting mental wellbeing.

Yoga sessions will see customers learning techniques to combat anxiety as well as introducing ‘chair yoga’ – some easy techniques tailored to alleviate the aches and pains of desk-based work.

For individuals wanting to adopt a ‘mind over matter’ outlook on life, an affirmation workshop will offer powerful tools to help focus the mind and help them work towards improving both their body and mind.

Relax kids will give parents the know-how to help their children become more resilient and give them tools and techniques to manage their emotional and mental health. Using research-based mindfulness and relaxation practices, alongside values and positive psychology they help to support children’s emotional health and wellbeing.

There will be the opportunity for customers to discover the importance of meditation in a lovely relaxing journey that leaves them feeling empowered, peaceful and content in the centre’s meditation session.

United Minds’ founder and therapist, Lotte Mikkelsen, will host a talk about the therapeutic benefits of happiness and will look at how we can incorporate a little more laughter in our lives.

Customers can also enjoy free Indian head and shoulder massages, learn the art of colouring therapy and enjoy retailer demonstrations, samples and discounts throughout the day. Bolton FM will be providing the soundtrack for the day with their chill out DJ sessions.

This fun, educational and inclusive event builds on Market Place’s dedication to tackling the growing concern of mental health in the community and offering a network of support to those who need it, and information to those who want to learn more.

Nikki Wilson-Cook, Centre Manager, Market Place says, “Mental health is a subject that is rarely out of the headlines these days and we’ve dealt with a number of incidents in and around the centre, first hand. We hope this event helps to break the stigma, open minds and give families and individuals the skills and tools needed to maintain positive mental wellbeing in the modern world.”
