Money from a charity indoor cycling Spinathon held at Horwich Leisure Centre is continuing to roll in weeks after the event, with the grand total now at a massive £4,400.

The team at Horwich held the event to raise money for mental health charity MIND, with a marathon 9-hour session, which combined the indoor cycling element,

Local businesses were approached to donate prizes for the raffle, and the response was immediate and overwhelmingly generous. Candle hampers, tickets to see the Wanderers at the Reebok, hair and beauty vouchers, a 45-minute ride in a Mustang. Also on the day, there was a face painting stall for the kids (and adults if they fancied it), a cake stall and a huge tombola.

Rachel Ainsworth, one of the fitness team at Horwich organised the whole event, and said:

“It was a great day, and we’d like to thank everyone who donated a prize, bought a raffle ticket, took part in the Spinathon, or attended the event. On the day, at the site we raised £960.00, and online donations have been huge.”

“We had some amazing donations from customers, staff and local businesses. Myself and colleague, Steve Hill did the whole 9 hours in the saddle, but it was worth to support MIND, a charity which does such important work and touches so many lives.”

Earlier this year, Rachel, with colleagues and members of her rpm class cycled from Salford to Blackpool, raising £900 for Macmillan and Cancer Research.

Horwich Leisure Centre is managed by the Bolton Community Leisure (BCL) in partnership with managing agent, Serco Leisure and on behalf of Bolton Borough Council. BCL runs five centres across Bolton: the Jason Kenny Centre, plus Farnworth, Leverhulme Park and Westhoughton Leisure Centres.
