Bolton's new £180,000 town centre skate park is now open.
The new open air concrete park has been created by leading skate park construction firm Freestyle Skateparks with the help of skaters and BMXers.
The new park has been built on the site of the old park on Dawes Street, which closed in September. It measures 1,275 square metres - almost double the size of the old park.
The space has been designed to accommodate all skills, age levels and all disciplines - skaters, BMX cyclists and scooters - together in one safe place. Features include ramps, slides, and rails.
The old skate park opened in 2007 and due to its popularity, council chiefs decided to create a new park to cater for the increase in demand.
Bolton Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Youth, Councillor John Byrne, said: “The old park was really popular but it got to a stage where it was just too small.
“The new park is a lot bigger and there are a lot more features in it. The young people helped to design it and hopefully they will like it.
“The park is in a good central location, it’s free and it will benefit thousands of young people for years to come.”
A group of 12 users were involved in the selection process for Freestyle Skateparks and in the design. Freestyle is the UK’s oldest and largest skate park design and build company.
