Well-Good, the charity set up by Bolton School Girls’ Division maths teachers Mr Grant Heppleston and Mr Jon Hitchin, has this year raised £5,200 to fund the construction of wells around the world.
The money has been put to use in in places such as India, Indonesia, Pakistan and Niger through Penny Appeal’s Thirst Relief programme.
The charity allows primary and secondary school pupils to raise money for water projects by answering maths questions online.
The money comes from Well-Good’s generous sponsors, but the amount they give depends on the number of questions answered. Every ten correct answers is enough to fund water for one person for one day.
The project therefore enables students to improve their mathematics skills while at the same time helping people in developing countries.
Girls’ Division pupils are currently on track to completion of the required half a million questions that will fund an additional well in Niger.
All of Well-Good’s completed projects so far can be viewed on the website under Water Projects: https://well-good.org/Water-Projects/
