BLACKEDGE Brewery in Horwich, in conjunction with Christmas tree growers The Tree Barn in Blackrod, have collaborated to produce a new local brew.

The ale called simply Spruce has been made using the young growing tips of spruce trees grown in the Tree Barn plantations and harvested at their best in May.

The first batch of draught beer, after tastings and refinements by Blackedge, is available at the bar at the brewery on Hampson Street in the town.

IN addition to the draught serving, the beer has also been sent for bottling and this will be available from October 23.

Blackedge are supporting Derian House this year and will be staffing the bar at Chorley’s Winter Sparkle at Astley Park in Chorley on Sunday November 1 when some 8,000 people are expected to attend.

The new Spruce ale will be on sale in both draught and bottles and Blackedge will be making a donation to Derian House from all sales.

The Tree Barn in Blackrod will open for Christmas Tree sales from Saturday November 21 and Spruce beer will be on sale. In addition, other Christmas items will be available including Christmas floristry made by Blackrod florist ‘Wild and Wondrous Flowers.’

Spruce smoked bacon sandwiches will also be on sale.

Full details of trees available at the Tree Barn will be in the next Advertiser out on November 5. Make sure you get hold of a copy.
