Bolton Council is reminding residents that the deadline for applying to register to vote is May 22nd and for postal voting is May 23rd.

Anyone who is not registered to vote can register quickly and easily at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote and must register by midnight on May 22nd.

Anyone who has already registered to vote in this year’s Mayoral elections will be on the electoral register and does not need to register again.

The deadline for applying for a postal vote in this year’s general elections is May 23rd at 5pm.

The postal vote applications must be received by the Elections Office at Second Floor, Howell Croft North, Le Mans Crescent, Bolton, BL1 1QY or be placed in the Applications Box at the One Stop Shop Reception in the Town Hall by this time and date.

No reason need be given as to why an elector requires a postal vote, but they can be useful for a variety of situations including for those not in the area on the day of the election or for those unable to visit a polling station due to disability or illness.

Applications for a postal vote must be made in writing and a form for applying can be found on the council's website at www.bolton.gov.uk

Alternatively, registration forms and postal vote applications are available from the Council by ringing 01204 338024.

Postal votes will be posted to electors by first class post on May 25th and postal voters have up until 10pm on Thursday June 8th to return them to the council, either by post before election day or by delivering them to the council or a polling station in their constituency on election day.

Voters go to the polls on Thursday June 8th and candidates will be fighting for three constituencies, Bolton North East, Bolton South East and Bolton West.
