Blackrod Art Group has been established for many years and is very much part of the Blackrod community. The group meets every Wednesday morning in Blackrod Methodist Church (upstairs) 09:00am – 11:30am.

For every meeting, the room is set up with many large tables in which work can be done, however the group wishes to stress that no experience is required – it is more about being part of a fun, sociable group of people once per week. Many of the current members came along at the beginning just to see what went on during the session and they are now happy members…. For those who wish to join you can be rest assured that the more experienced artists will be on hand to welcome you, advise you and offer as much help as possible.

Most of the art that is created will come from information and inspiration, therefore there is always a library of books, cd’s & magazines available.

New joining members also don’t have to worry about getting thirsty during sessions as refreshments of tea/coffee & toast are on offer from 10:00am for only 20p!!

An annual exhibition of group work is displayed in Blackrod library which is supported by giving a percentage of the payments received when any picture is sold. They also hold occasional open evenings where the works are judged and trophies awarded, during open evenings there is a raffle and members of the public are invited to vote too – on open evening occasions refreshments of snacks & wine will be served!

The Blackrod art group supports The Rivington Exhibition where a percentage of the sale from all paintings is given to them.
The group consists of a vast array of skills including oils, acrylics, watercolour, pastels, charcoal and brusho.

If you are interested in joining this wonderful group, then they have a selection of materials available for you to ‘come and have a go’ for 4 sessions free of charge – after the 4 sessions if you wish to join us permanently then the membership fee is only £50 for 12 months!

Your membership fee gets you much more than just meeting once per week – they offer a full calendar of events and demonstrations. The demonstrations include many well-known artists.

Being active and sociable means a lot to the group and they go on many trips, popular destinations include art galleries in Liverpool, Grasmere, Holmfirth and Port Sunlight to name a few.

It’s an exciting time of year for the group as they have officially now launched the 2018 calendars – the calendar depicts stunning local scenery around the area, they are sold for only £4 and are vastly popular ALL OVER THE WORLD. The calendar is available from many places including Blackrod Library, Rivington Barn shop, Blackrod Methodist Church and also many stores situated around Blackrod – From Monday 9th October they will be ready for you to go and buy.

Also coming soon is the group’s Christmas party where of course new members are welcome to attend!

Here at Horwich Advertiser we invite you to go and see what the group offers – as mentioned above your free to have a go for up to 4 sessions, you may know a friend or family member who this would be perfect for so do mention it to them.
