A GYMNASTICS club has returned from a national competition with its biggest ever medal haul.

Members of ABC Acrobatic Gymnastics Club's Diamond Elite Squad in Leigh claimed 51 golds, 12 silvers and 23 bronzes at the West Street National Open Competition.

Head coaches Claire Ascroft and Tanya Myers are "extremely proud" of all the gymnasts and say "their hard work, dedication and commitment to the sport is paying off".

The club, which has 250 members, has been running for five years, having its own premises since 2016.

The Diamond Elite Squad, aged from seven to 15, train a minimum of 13.5 hours a week.

The club's next competition is the British Championship, which will take place at Fenton Manor Sports Complex in Stoke-on-Trent on May 18 and 19.

Gymnasts Georgia Brown, 11, and Holly Fletcher, eight, will be representing ABC and the North West after qualifying for the event with their results in Swansea.

It will involve competing against the best gymnasts in Britain.

The club is sponsored by Xtreme Nutrition in Golborne.
