Market Place in Bolton is to announce that they will be sponsoring the ‘Best Made Up North’ category at this year’s Bolton Film Festival, which takes place at the centre’s cinema, The Light, from Tuesday 1st– Thursday 3rd October 2019.
The event, which is returning to Market Place for its third year, will see The Light play host to three days of international short films, industry talks and masterclasses.
The festival is consistently voted a ‘Top 100 reviewed’ festival from over 7000 festivals worldwide and will screen over 100 short films throughout the duration, giving festival goers a perfect opportunity to explore The Light cinema and enjoy its state-of-the-art audio-visual technology and facilities.
The Festival’s patron, actress Maxine Peake, will be supported by a stellar line-up of industry professionals including Maggie Ellis (Head of FLAMIN/Derek Jarman at Film London), BAFTA winning producer Colin Pons, BAFTA nominated writer Chris Lunt, Olivier award winning TV/Film and Theatre director David Thacker (Octagon Theatre/University of Bolton) and many more illustrious industry jurors.
Previous Festivals have included BAFTA and OSCAR winning short films, student films, community film-makers, crowd funded films, and BFI and Creative England short films, the most notable success coming from "The Silent Child" which later went on to win the Academy Award for Best Short Action film, so guests are promised an incredible cinematic experience.
Last year’s event was hugely popular, with involvement by students from the University of Bolton, Manchester Metropolitan University, UTC Media City, Salford University, UCLAN, Manchester College, Bolton College, Turton Sixth Form, Blackburn College, film-makers and the public alike.
The event is the ideal opportunity for those already working in the film industry, looking to make their break into it or simply who have a love of watching great independent films.
Anyone wishing to submit a short film to the festival under any of a variety of categories including (but not limited to) Audience Award, Best International Short, Best UK Short, Best Made up North, Best Documentary, Best Animation, Best LGBT, Best Experimental/Artist Moving Image, Best Film For Change,
Best Performance, Best Animation (Student) and Best Community or Charity Short, has until 4th July to do so. It’s the perfect opportunity for filmmakers to get their work viewed by the experts and the masses and kick start what could be an illustrious career.
Nikki Wilson-Cook, Centre Manager, Market Place says, “We’re really excited to be sponsoring this year’s Bolton Film Festival. The festival really shines a light on the film industry on both an international and very local level. It gives a fabulous insight into every facet of film-making for anyone interested, on both a personal and professional level, so we hope to see lots of faces involved in all three days.”
Adrian Barber, Festival Director, Bolton Film Festival says, “It’s fantastic to have the support of Market Place. I always knew we had a great venue but it was only through visiting other film festivals that I realised we have one of the best in Europe. To have a nine screen cinema, an art gallery, restaurants, bars and shops all under one roof offers festival goers an experience they’ll be hard pressed to find elsewhere.”
