We are saddened to say that one of the ‘Tommy Silhouettes’ and a Lamppost Poppy have been stolen from under the M61 bridge at the bottom of Crown Lane.

As I’m sure many of you would have noticed, this year as with all previous years we adorned the Lampposts in Horwich with Poppies and Tommy Silhouettes.

What many people don’t realise is each Lamppost Poppy and Tommy Silhouettes signifies the hundreds of individuals from Horwich who made the ultimate sacrifice during WW1 and WW2.

These men, lived and worked within our community, many of the names you may still recognise as they might be related or live in the very same house, or in the same street as you.

We would encourage those responsible to do the right thing and return it.

If you know the person who may have done this please remind them these silhouettes symbolise the very men who gave their lives for their freedoms today.
