Bolton West MP Chris Green has visited rapidly-expanding Horwich-based company Trojan Utilities to congratulate them on their commitment to innovation in smart technology.

Recently elected to the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee, Mr Green was eager to support the company that is the largest and fastest growing independent installer of Smart Meters in the UK.

Trojan Utilities welcomed the MP into their company to share with him their phenomenal growth story and plans for further expansion starting with another wave of employing talent from the town.

Mr Green said: “I am delighted to have Trojan Utilities in my constituency. They show real get-up-and-go and thirst for achievement through innovation.

“Their commitment to employing from the town and putting Bolton on the map in the energy sector is commendable. Well done to everyone involved.”

Initially worth around £5.5m, Trojan Utilities will be supporting upgrading gas and electricity meters for OVO Energy customers across the UK allowing OVO Energy to advance ambitious plans to gain more market share of the supplier market as customers move away from the Big Six.

Gareth Openshaw, Managing Director of Trojan Utilities says: "We would all like to thank Chris for his interest and shear enthusiasm for our company.

“His words of encouragement will stay with us as we continue to innovate and expand within the independent energy sector.”

Trojan Utilities are expected to achieve 250,000 Smart Meter installs by the beginning of 2016 working for independent energy suppliers as the national roll-out of Smart Meters continues to pick up pace across 26 million households.

Smart Meters help customers see exactly the energy they are using.  The effect of reducing energy usage can be seen immediately via the in-home display, which helps customers make better choices and save money.

Smart Meters ensure customers receive accurate bills without submitting a meter reading as the meter sends regular and accurate readings to the energy supplier every day.

The national roll-out of Smart Meters is a Government mandated programme which will mean 53 million Smart Meters will be fitted in over 26 million households across England, Scotland and Wales by 2020.
